JEE Main 2017: Application Form, Exam Dates, and Eligibility

  • JEE Main 2017 exam is the most sought exam among the students of India. JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) is a two tier examination (Main & Advanced) regulated by CBSE Board.
  • Candidates can get admissions inTech/B.Arch programmes offered by NITs, IIITs and other engineering institutions through JEE Main exam while IITs offer these courses through JEE Advanced exam.
  • JEE Main exam is also considered as a qualifying exam to appear JEE Advanced exam.

  • JEE Main 2017 Notifications – Application From 1st Dec. to 2nd Jan
  • JEE Main 2017 application form will start from 1st December, 2016 .
  • A notification has been released regarding Aadhaar. This is to facilitate the aspirants who do not posses the Aadhaar card or having issues in entries.
  • The weightage of 12th marks will not be considered for calculating JEE Main Rank from 2017.
  • There is no minimum criteria for 12th percentage for appearing in JEE Main 2017 exam.
  • For the candidates to qualify for the admission in the IITs/NITs/IIITs and such other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE (Advanced)/JEE(Main) ranks, they should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST students the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.
  • All the Indian citizen candidates should possess AADHAAR card issued by UIDAI. At the time of filling application form of JEE (Main)–2017, the candidates will have to enter their AADHAAR number, name, date of birth & gender which will be validated with the UIDAI’s   In case, these particulars do not match, the candidates will not be able to fill the application form for JEE (Main)–2017. Therefore, the candidates are advised to ensure that their AADHAAR card has correct details of their name, date of birth & gender as per school records. If there is some mismatch in these details, the candidates should immediately get it corrected in AADHAAR data or school records, as the case may be. (See latest notification about Aadhaar card above)

  • Candidates are suggested to check the JEE Main 2017 eligibility criteria before applying:
  • Age Limit:Candidate’s date of birth should fall on or after 01 October, 1992 for general candidates and 01, October 1987 for SC, ST and PwD candidates.
  • Candidates appearing/passed 12th or equivalent exam in 2015 or 2016 with PCM are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who have passed 12thor equivalent exam in 2014 are not eligible to apply.
  • Number of Subjects in 12th:Aspirants should have minimum five subjects in 12th/qualifying examination.
  • Number of Attempts:Candidate can attempt JEE Main exam three times 
  • Diploma (3 years) holdersare also eligible to apply.

  • JEE Main 2017 Application Form
  • Candidates are required to fill the JEE Main Application Form 2017 only throughonline process. The application form will be available from 1st December 2016.
  • No other modes will be entertained to fill and submit the application form.
  • The last date to fill the application form will be 2nd January, 2017.
  • Candidate can submit only one application  More than one application form filling will lead to rejection.
  • There is no need to send the printed application form to the CBSE Board.

  • The application fee payment can be made through two modes online mode (debit/credit card) or offline mode (e-challan of Syndicate/Canara/ICICI/HDFC Bank).

  • JEE Main Application Form Correction:
  • Candidates will have a chance to made correction in the application form.
  • Correction period will be announced for one week in the second half of January, 2017(Tentatively).
  • Any further corrections in application form after closing the correction period will not be entertained.
  • Only selected and permitted entries may be modified.

  • Courses:It is held for engineering courses (B.Tech/BE).
  • Number of Questions:It is consisted of 90 MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions).
  • Subjects:The paper will be asked from subjects as Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • Language:Hindi, English (candidates can select while filling the application form)
  • Mode:It will be commenced via both; online & offline.
  • Duration:3 hours.  (4 hours for the candidates having 40% or more disability)
  • Marking Scheme:4 marks for each correct response.
  • Negative Marking:1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response or multi-responses.

  • Courses:It is held for Architecture course. (B.Arch).
  • Number of Questions:It is consisted of 82 questions (MCQs) out of which 30 questions from mathematics, 50 questions from aptitude test and 2 questions (descriptive) of drawing test.
  • Subjects:The paper will be asked from subjects as Mathematics, Aptitude, Drawing.
  • Language:Hindi, English (candidates can select while filling the application form)
  • Mode:It will be commenced via offline mode.
  • Duration:3 hours. (4 hours for the candidates having 40% or more disability)
  • Marking Scheme:4 marks for each correct response (2 questions of drawing will carry 70 marks).
  • Negative Marking:1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect or multi-responses.

  • Candidates may check the JEE Main preparation tips for scoring well in the exam. Every year a large number of candidates appear to this exam. FAQ’s (Most Asked Questions)

  • Question:What is the number of attempts in the examination?
    • Answer:You can attempt only three times.
  • Question:Is 75% marks compulsory in 12th exam to appear JEE Main exam?
    • Answer:No, candidates appearing/passed 12th or qualifying exam will be eligible to appear in JEE Main 2017. But for admission in to IIT’s, IIIT’s, NIT’s, CFTI’s candidates must score at least 75% (65% in case of SC/ST candidates) in their class 12th board exams as the mandatory eligibility.
  • Question:How many times the examination held in a year?
    • Answer:Only one time.
  • Question:Will the board provide the correction facility in year 2017?
    • Answer:Not sure, but as per the previous years look it may be provided. Better you fill your form correct in one time.
  • Question:When will the Application form be released?
    • Answer:first December 2016.
  • Question:Will 12th marks be added in JEE score to prepare the merit?
    • Answer:No, It is said that the 12th marks will not be added in year 2017.
  • Question:Will diploma holders be eligible for lateral entry through JEE exam?
    • Answer:No, JEE Main exam held only for providing the regular (first year-first semester) admission.
  • Question:Will vacant seat in IITs be filled by JEE Main score after counselling & allocation 2017?
    • Answer:No, If seats remain vacant then too not be filled by JEE Main.
  • Question:Are trannsgenders allowed to appear the examination?
    • Answer:Yes they are.
  • Question:Can a candidate owe the facility of two types of reservations?
    • Answer:Of course not.

JEE Main Admit Card


  • The JEE Main 2017 Admit Card will be released by the authority in the first week of March, 2016(Tentative). Candidates can download the admit card from the official website of JEE Main. To download the admit card candidates are required to provide their roll number and board details of 12th class or equivalent exam on the official website of JEE Main.

Display of Answer Key

  • After the JEE Main exam, the official answer key and images of response sheets (OMR sheets) will be displayed in the second week of April, 2017 (Tentative). Candidates can download the answer key through the official website of JEE Main. If candidate is not satisfied with the answer key then the candidate can make a written challenge.

JEE Main 2017 Result

  • The result will be declared on the 27th April, 2017. Candidates can check their JEE Main Result 2017 through the official site. Students are required to enter their roll number and date of birth and click on the submit button to generate your score card. After the result announcement, merit list will be prepared only on the basis of JEE Main Score. From the year 2017 board marks will not be taken in to account for preparing JEE main merit, but candidates who wish to take admission in to IIT’s, IIIT’s, NIT’s, CFTI’s must score atleast 75% in their class 12th board exams as the mandatory eligibility.

JEE Main 2017 Cut-off

  • The cut-off is the minimum score required by the candidates to get admission in the top colleges of the country. The JEE Main 2017 Cut-off will be decided by various factors such as number of students appearing for the exam, difficulty level of exam, etc. Here we have mentioned the cut-off based on the previous year analysis:

JEE Main 2017 Counselling

  • Candidates will be called for counselling procedure as per to their rank obtained in the merit list. The JEE Main 2017 Counselling will be started from the first week of July, 2017 (Tentatively). Counselling will be handled by JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority). The counselling has been divided into various rounds. After each round allotment result will be announced separately.
